Information for new PhD Students

The Department of Information Engineering and Mathematics (DIISM) extends a warm welcome to the PhD students enrolled in the 'Information Engineering and Science' program, as well as those participating in joint PhD programs with the Universities of Florence and Pisa under the Pegaso framework (Smart Industry, Smart Computing, Computer Science).
Below is an overview of the services offered by DIISM to PhD students:

Badge

  • A badge is required to access the research laboratories and is issued by the Administrative Staff (Segreteria Amministrativa) located in rooms 128-131.
  • For PhD students enrolled in Pegaso programs, the badge can be obtained upon request from the Supervisor, who is a faculty member at DIISM. The Supervisor must complete the PhD Badge Request Form and send it to phdstart@diism.unisi.it

Account

  • All PhD students are given an account within the DIISM network. The account provides access to the Reserved Area on the department’s website, allowing students to utilize various departmental services such as missions, orders, FAQs, and more.
  • To activate the account and the email, PhD students must contact the DIISM Technical Staff (room 214).

ITALIAN LANGUAGE COURSE FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

International students who are not native Italian speakers and have not reached at least level A1 proficiency in the Italian language are encouraged to incorporate activities designed to achieve this level into their educational programs.

The Department of Information Engineering and Mathematics offers an Italian language course specifically designed for international students. This course is organized into 20-hour modules, with sessions available every semester.

The primary objective of this initiative is to equip international students with the necessary skills to attain a language proficiency level of at least A1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Students who demonstrate more advanced language proficiency may achieve recognition at level A2.

Upon completion of each module, there is an assessment that includes a written test and, for those who pass, an oral interview. Successful students will receive an Open Badge issued by the University of Siena, certifying their achievement at either the A1 or A2 level.

Students interested in participating in this course can register through the following link: https://forms.gle/66ef4GiJJUZqbu2V9
