The acronym CAGD (Computer Aided Geometric Design) denotes the set of mathematical and computational methods for the construction, the representation and the manipulation of objects of great interest in various fields, which range from computer aided design/manufacturing (CAD/CAM), to robotics, till scientific visualization. Therefore, from a strictly mathematical point of view, the abbreviation denotes the set of methods and algorithms for the construction, representation and manipulation of curves, surfaces, volumes and grids.
In this context, the Research Unit main interests focus on
constrained interpolation and approximation for curves and surfaces with particular emphasis to shape-preserving constraints by tension methods;
CAGD tools for Isogeometric Analysis (in PDE's discretization);
agebraic-geometric structures suitable for the description of rigid body motions
